All images used in these spreads are my own photographs none have been taken from the internet.
I used a basic compositional grid for all of my magazine spreads. This ensured that they would all flow nicely together without text being too overcrowding or pictures looking out of place. My main idea for my editorial information pages was to show peoples different ideas of chic fashion, and each page has a different them and colour palette. Because the colours are all taken directly from the images using the eyedropper tool the whole spread blends nicely together and the colours flow.
In this spread I began to experiment with text cutouts and images and learning how to layer them through photoshop. For this I used the magic wand tool to select the letters or numbers I wanted to see the image underneath, I then used a layer mask to layer on top to erase the rest of the image, this gave me my desired quirky/unique style for my magazine. I really enjoyed this as I feel like it goes really well with my theme. I also changes the shape of the text to create some movement to the page, for example I used the elipse tool to create a circle, I then used the selection tool to shape this around the model, sort of shaping it around her body shape, to the best of my ability.
Once again with his spread, I continued experimenting with layering text over images as I wanted it to definitely be a part of my magazine. The theme for this spread was neutrals as this is an extremely popular segment of Timeless fashion and things that are constantly coming in and out of fashion. It is a colour that simply does not age and it can make an outfit go from boring and plain to chic and timeless as there are so many different shades, whether it is dark or light can change the entire vibe of the outfit.
This spread was the one that took me the most time, as I used cut outs of the model, I had to cut out these images using the eraser tool on photoshop, this was extremely time consuming therefore I will continue to experiment and try my best to find a more efficient way of doing so. By the time I had got to designing this page I had perfected my skill of layering text and images, I really feel this adds something different to my pieces. Even with the gym, thing like leggings and shorts are so unstable when it comes to trends, certain colours may be deemed ‘out of date’ and ‘unfashionable’.
The main message for this spread was that modesty is not spoken about enough when it comes to fashion, people say society has evolved yet models who cover up are never anywhere near as popular as models who show skin and hair. I think it should be raved about just as much, the simple idea of covering yourself and choosing who you show it to is powerful beyond comprehension, and people who have not grown up around these behaviors will never fully understand this. “A woman’s most prized possession isn’t her hair or beauty, it is her modesty.”
