The main feature of this website will be a scrolling homepage that uses 10 different photos to illustrate the timeline of the development of art and design. While educating the viewer on the time period and some key ideas within that art movement, the scrolling webpage will cover everything from traditional art to graphic design and architecture.
Additionally, I will update each of the ten works in a similar way while reflecting today's environment as seen in ads, contemporary graphics, and other media, etc. I'm going to try a variety of methods, including both contemporary and more conventional ones, to achieve this, including biro sketches, acrylic paints, watercolour and the addition of modern aspects through the use of online editing tools.
Here is the assignment brief, and on the right is a mind map where I have skimmed through and picked out the most important parts of the project to break it down for myself.
Defining the problem space
After reading and summarising the brief, I now know I need to create a problem statement, this will determine whether my website will be successful or not and whether it will tailor to my user's needs
Using the four W's (Who, what, where, when) as a guide, I will approach the problem from a user's perspective. As a result, I can create a variety of scenarios depending on the needs of different types of users. This will help me ensure that my website has a higher chance of being a success.
Potential users
Four W's
"Currently, I am pursuing a degree in architecture with a focus on web design and the history behind it. It's hard to gather clear examples and to the point, because of this I feel swamped and confused about where to look”.
who- undergraduate studying design subjects what- finding it hard to find examples on web design why- there are too many examples to look through they feel frustrated.
"I am a university lecturer teaching undergraduate students about the history of art and design and how it has had an impact on art and design nowadays. Im finding it hard to find resources to make it simpler for my students to make sense of the topic".
who- higher education lecturer looking for teaching resources what- seeking teaching resources for the history of art and design why- to help students better understand the topic in simpler forms with visual images in front of them.
Here I have created a miro map for the problem space, this is the user journey map for if the website were designed poorly and if it were a fail.
I have mentioned the users feelings at different stages and what would possibly be going through their mind at each phase. I did this by putting myself in the users shoes and going through websites myself which were examples of poor functionality and design so I had a first hand experience of what the user experience and reaction would be in a problem space like this.
