Conceptual design

This is a good example of a logo which has been conceptually designed. This is due to the use of the word comedy whilst placing drawings of jester hats around the eyes. The drawings resemble face painting, which could be alluring to either children or creative and quirky adults even though the magazine is a VOGUE magazine. Vogue have managed to convey a sense of playfulness and creativity without saying too much or adding unnecessary words which could cause distraction, they have simply done it through the use of colour and pattern. It is often specific celebrities who appear on the cover of vogue, which is generically a sophisticated and fancy magazine. These popular writers and comedians give a different perspective to the magazine and make it seem like it is more for everyone not just high end fashion models and the upper class. The designer has used a bold serif typeface which works well with the patterns in the font as it gives the cover somewhat of an old fashioned feel, once again reinforcing a quirky theme on the cover of a modern day magazine.

This is an example of a poster which is not conceptually designed. It is extremely plain and simple and does not show much of a thought process behind it. The artist uses a bold serif typeface however it does not relate to the outline of a face on the poster. The word ‘vogue’ is considered to be an extremely fashionable word in itself, and I feel as though this image does not represent this. When most people think of the VOGUE magazine they think of spectacular fashion models and high end clothes. When redesigning this piece I will take into account the ideas of style and fashion to perhaps incorporate the silhouette into the letters or something of the sort. I will also change the background and make it more colourful to match the conceptual body silhouette. Although i understand the designers perspective of making it abstract and simple, the concept does not work both ways, as if you invert it the nose and mouth are not visible and the nose goes inwards.
